people think being fit and being healthful are the same and one. You may be really fit, and not very healthful, and you may be very healthful and not very fit. With trying to receive a balance from either side, the advantages are found, this requires us to recognize the distinction between wellness and fitness. So lets define the difference.

The World Health Organization has defined health as a state of complete physical, social and mental well being, rather than only the absence of infirmity or illness. Fitness consists of several elements, and when discussing fitness levels, these factors need to be taken into consideration:

Fitness involves action of some sort that maintains a requirement and stimulates systems of the body. Health, and on the other hand, involves every system of the body and is only achieved through a lifestyle that supports health.

For example, if a client of mine tells me that they’ve neglected into eat properly, ignored the fat content, and ate mostly unhealthy foods, all the exercise at the world couldn’t possibly correct the harm done from this kind of a lifestyle.

Exercise won’t remove the harm from chemicals, or improve immunity system harm or weakness from depleted foods. Only sound nutrition can support good wellness. Obviously, physical exercise can ALSO support wellness and WILL improve wellness if it’s part of a WAY OF LIFE. Our health is mainly the consequence of thousands of daily nutritional decisions.

As you continue on your personal wellness journey, or if you’re just getting back on the right track, ask yourself it simple question: Am I on the road into becoming healthy and fit, or just fit? In case your answer is just fit, try incorporating other aspects of well-being into a more comprehensive plan that revolves around the combination of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health.
